TV On The Radio - ‘Happy Idiot'

TV On The Radio are back in a big way. Last year’s delicious rocker ‘Mercy’, and the slower-but-also-tasty 'Million Miles’, were the first releases from the New York legends since 2011’s Nine Types of Light and the subsequent death of their bassist, Gerard Smith. The band have improved steadily with each of their four studio albums, so we can only hold our collective breath and hope that they have worked through these hard times to produce something incredible with Heels, expected in mid-November.

Surprisingly, neither of the two songs above feature on the album’s 12-song track list. One song that does feature, however, is new single ‘Happy Idiot’. A typically sharp beat kicks things off, and a surging guitar line starts to imprint itself onto your brain. By the time that pre-chorus hits, you already know you’re listening to one of the band’s best songs to date: the wild, stuttering riff that takes over in the final minute is just a cherry on top.

In a press release, TV On The Radio had this to say:

“We’ve been through a lot of stuff in the past few years that could have stopped the band cold, but I’m glad we got it together and took stock of the unique connection we have between each other because the record is, 1,000 percent, without a doubt, the best thing we’ve ever done.”

And good on them, too - so far, it’s sounding awesome.
