The Drums - ‘Magic Mountain'

So The Drums disappeared for three years, and now they’re back with a completely new sound. Thankfully, they’ve lost the sleepy-eyed stupor of their earlier output. ‘Magic Mountain’ sees them wide awake and in your face. This sharper, fuller sound doesn’t come at the expense of their pop chops, either; the song is still catchy as anything, even if it dwells a little too much on the titular hook. Directing their lyrical escapism to towards a new mythical (psychological?) space rather than the beach which drew them previously, The Drums have obviously spent their time off wisely. They’ve returned more mature and sounding better than ever.
